Introduction

This pilot in “Group Facilitation & Leadership’ is intended as a core and short module of a more comprehensive Community Arts Practitioner Training delivery into the community arts sector.  This pilot has been written collaboratively by representatives from the Creative Access Networks (Auckland based): ToiOra Live Art Trust and Spark Centre of creative development - and is intended to be delivered to community art organisations, programme designers/commissioners and creative spaces within the Auckland district.

Context

Those working in creative spaces and disability arts in particular have long seen the need for training and development of skills and expertise in the sector.  They acknowledge that the kinds of skills and learning required are relevant across the board for those working in creative art spaces with people who are vulnerable and have complex needs.  It has been recognized that to sustain and grow this sector a more diverse skill set is necessary to deliver quality programmes within high need and complex contexts.

Pilot description

The development team has identified the core areas for learning and has built these

into a six session training programme with a focus on an introduction to:

  • Group Facilitation.
  • Creative Spaces – their unique environment & context within

the community.

  • Conclusion and future development.

The evaluation of this pilot will help inform the development of a national training strategy, delivering to the national networks of creative spaces and independent community art facilitators.  This national strategy will be lead and supported by national body of creative spaces, Arts Access Aotearoa.
